In the 60’s there came an actor who was expert in everything. This actor fit into every type of role like dance, acting, romance, comedy and drama and the name of that actor is Ravi Kapoor who is generally known by the name of Jitendra.
Jitendra made his debut in the year 1964 with the film ‘Geet Gaya Pattharon’. After this he gave many hit films but by the time of 80’s he also gave some flop films. People thought that his stardom was over but then two of his films came which created a stir at the box office. Even the superhit actors of that era, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra were surprised.

But Telugu filmmaker Kovalamudi Raghavendra Rao signed him for two of his films. Those films were ‘Himmatwala’ and ‘Tohfa’. Both these films were Hindi remakes of Raghavendra Rao’s Telugu films.
‘Himmatwala’ (1983)
The 1981 Telugu film Ooruki Monagadu was directed by Raghavendra Rao and its Hindi remake was ‘Himmatwala’. Jeetendra was seen in the lead role in the film Himmatwala and Sridevi was the lead actress. Apart from these, great stars like Kader Khan, Asrani, Shakti Kapoor, Swaroop Sampat, Shoma Anand and Waheeda Rehman also played important roles. According to media reports, the budget of the film Himmatwala was Rs 3 crore while the film collected Rs 15 crore at the box office.
‘Tohfa’ (1984)
The 1982 Telugu film Devatha was also directed by Raghavendra Rao and its Hindi remake was ‘Tohfa’. Jitendra was seen in the lead role in the film Tohfa, while Sridevi and Jaya Prada were seen as lead actresses. Apart from these, great stars like Kader Khan, Asrani, Shakti Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Jagdeep, Leela Mishra and Urmila Bhatt played important roles.
According to media reports, the budget of the film Tohfa was Rs 2 crore while the film collected Rs 9 crore at the box office. This film was included in the list of highest grossing films of that year.

Jitendra gave many films as a lead actor. In which ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Hatim Tai’, ‘Farz’, ‘Nagin’, ‘Sanjog’, ‘Maang Bharo Sajna’, ‘Ek Hi Bhool’, ‘Parichaya’, ‘Dharma Kanta’, ‘Caravan’, ‘Swarg’ Gave many superhit films like ‘Se Sundar’.
Jitendra played every type of role in his career, he even started his career as the body double of an actress. But in the year 1983 and 1984, two such films came in front of which the films of all the big actors of that era paled. The names of those two films are ‘Tohfa’ (1984) and ‘Himmatwala’ (1983).
